Christmas-related trivia about Jean-Paul Sartre after the jump.
The author of No Exit wrote a Christmas play called Bariona ou le fils du tonerre. It was Sartre’s first play and it was performed only once during his lifetime, while Sartre was a prisoner of war in Stalag XII in Germany in 1940. The play escaped censorship even though Roman oppression portrayed in the play was a veiled allusion to the situation of his fellow prisoners and offered messages of freedom and revolt.
