How to Hide a Window in Mac OSX

Want to hide an active window? There’s a keyboard shortcut for that.

Want hide all windows except for your currently active window? There’s a keyboard shortcut for that.

To hide an active window:

  • Type Command + H

The active window will become hidden. All other open windows will remain open.

To hide other windows except for the active windows:

  • Type Command + Option + H

The active window will remain open. All other windows will become hidden. This is especially useful if you want to access a file on your desktop but want to see something in the active application.

This works in Mac OSX Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard, and Tiger.
