Read CBR and CBZ (digital comics) using Ehon, free for OS X Mountain Lion

Looking for a free comic book reader for OS X Mountain Lion?

Ehon is a free and easy to use comic book reader and manager from Kaiju Software. As a digital comic book reader, Ehon supports the following file formats:

  • epub
  • PDF
  • image folders

Download Ehon on the Mac App Store here:

The minimum system requirements are as follows:

  • Intel-based Macs
  • OS X 10.6.6 or later (for Ehon’s Mac App Store version), which means it can be installed on Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion

I’ve already written about two of my favorite digital comic book readers for OS X. I adore the simplicity of the aptly named Simple Comic. Read my previous post on Simple Comic.

Another great free app for OS X is Comical.

If you are using an older Mac, such as an iBook G4, I highly recommend Simple Comic, which runs speedily  even on older systems.

Ehon’s advantage is its book management function. You see your comic books displayed on a virtual bookshelf where you can see your entire collection. By clicking on an individual book, you will be shown a panel where you can:

  • Rate your book
  • Check or uncheck whether that book has been read
  • See information about the book, such as when you imported it, when you last opened it, etc.
