You might have heard the news already. The photo-sharing website Flickr is now giving its users 1 terabyte of free space.
Flickr, owned by tech giant Yahoo, may have lost some traction to more popular social networking sites such as Instagram and Facebook. But the move by Flickr seems like a serious move in the right direction in attracting both serious photographers and hobbyists.
A letter it recently sent existing users (see screenshot above) contained the following text:
Smile.
Everyone now gets a free terabyte of space.
Amazing things are happening at Flickr. We’ve made a lot of important upgrades to your service that we wanted you to know about.

Just Got Better.
Biggr: Others measure in gigabytes. Flickr gives you 1000x the space: a free terabyte.
Whenevr: Upload once, send to any device, any screen, any friend and any follower.
Spectaculr: All of your photos saved in their full resolution and original quality, beautifully displayed.
The higher limit set by Flickr even puts it ahead of other cloud storage services as Dropbox and Microsoft’s Sky Drive. How the service is received by users remains to be seen. For now, the 1-terabyte limit is enough to set tech sites abuzz with the news.
