As you’ve probably heard, Apple released today ng latest operating system upgrade for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The new OS, called iOS 7, brings to Apple iDevices its biggest software design change yet. It also offers a few new functions. So, will you be upgrading to the new OS? Yes? No? Maybe?

OS X Mountain Lion hits 3 million downloads in four days

In just a matter of four days, Apple reported topping three million download of its latest OS for the Mac, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Not bad for an OS that has been noted to not that different from its predecessor, OS X 10.7 Lion. Apple says OS X Mountain Lion is “the most successful OS X release in Apple’s history.”

OS X Mountain Lion has hit 3 million downloads in just four days since its release.

Download OS X Mountain Lion

Latest OS for the Mac, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, is now available for on the Mac App Store. You can get it for USD 19.99. If you had bought your Mac on June 11, 2012, or later, then you most probably qualify for a free upgrade to Mountain Lion.

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion was released today, July 25.

OS X 10.8 adds several enhancements to the OS, including greater integration with iPads, iPhones, and other iOS devices.

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is about 4 GB. It can be installed on computers running OS X 10.6.8 or later, so that’s good news for those running OS X Snow Leopard or Lion.

Download Apple’s iBooks Author (1.1 Update)

Without much fanfare, Apple updated the iBooks Author app a few days ago. Ok, granted the update is a minor one. But if you plan to use your Mac to create books for iOS, then download iBooks Author here (right, assuming you haven’t yet).

The iBooks Author app can be used to create books for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Expect Thinner Keyboards on 15- and 17-inch Macbooks

Apple wants to put laptops with thinner keyboards in your hands. A patent application dug up by Apple Insider points to plans by Apple to make keyboards as thin as .02 mm. These keyboards would be thinner, lighter, and more quiet than keyboards being manufactured today.

The patent says the new keyboards could be made of glass, wood, stone, or, believe it or not, polished meteorite (material that’s, you know, out of this world).

The 15-inch Macbook Pro and the rumored 15-inch Macbook Air are prime candidates to get ultra-high resolution retina display from Apple. Image from Apple website.

Download Messages Beta for the Macbook (an OS X Mountain Lion preview)

Apple announced OS X Mountain Lion and some of its new features. Among these features is a new Messages app that is much like Messages on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The public beta version of the Messages app can be downloaded now and can be run exclusively on Mac OS X Lion.

iPad 3 Could Be Announced in February 2012

A February intro and a March 2012 release. Such is the rumor picked up by Cnet  from a Japanese Apple blog.

According to the Cnet report, the possible iPad 3 release could have come earlier except that Apple’s factories in China are tied up with the celebration of the Lunar New Year.
