Stanza seems to be running again since its “demise” about a year ago. Good thing, too, as it gives you more choices in reading books on iOS, though development on the app seems to be frozen up to now.

There are, of course, many ebook readers on the iOS app store for the iPhone, the iPod Touch, and the iPad, including Apple’s very own iBooks app.

The following are some of the best, free ebook readers for iOS. Note that while the apps are free, many books need to be purchased from an ebook seller. Free books are available online on Project Gutenberg and other websites.

Top Three Free Epub Readers for Mac OS X

Well I’ve written and ranted before about free epub readers for Mac OS X. There are few such apps and those that are available seem to me to be limited as ebook readers. While I’d love to repeat and expound on my complaints, right now, I’d like to present you with a small list of epub readers I’ve found for Mac OS X.

Free Epub Book Readers for Mac OS X

It’s convenient to have books to read on the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is portable and capable of storing thousands of ebooks. Ebook reader apps tend to offer options to adjust the screen brightness, font faces and font sizes, and text and background colors. A good ebook reader app could let you bookmark pages, take notes, and look up definition of words without leaving the app.

I switched to the iBooks app on my iPod Touch after the Stanza app became unusable after I updated to iOS version 5 on the iPod Touch.

What happened to Stanza? It appears Stanza was bought by Amazon and has since died from neglect. Read and find out how and why: Amazon Killed Stanza.

Since Stanza’s death on iOS, I’ve been using Apple’s iBooks app. I disliked iBooks app at first because, compared to Stanza on iOS, iBooks felt sluggish. But the app has since grown on me.
